PREVALENCE OF LAMENESS AND ASSOCIATED FOOT LESIONS IN SAHIWAL DAIRY COWS

Lameness is 3rd most prevalent disease after mastitis and infertility, in the dairy industry today an important welfare issue causing significant impact on economics. leads to involuntary culling of lactating cattle due effect production reproduction.Mostly lameness occurs foot lesions irrespective breed, management animal. Two hundred four Sahiwal cows were evaluated for associated claw lesionsin study from local farms Punjab. Clinical (lameness score 2 & 3) was evident 6 per cent animals. After scoring, each animal restrained chute hooves examined before paring 1 mm hoof tissue weight bearing surface. Seventy three animals had at least one lesion their hooves. On level, under run soles (45%) found be followed by white line (29%), overgrown (7%), cork screw (5%), sole avulsions hemorrhages (3%), heel erosions double (2%) wall cracks (1%). At prevalence 35.3 cent, among which (19.3%) (16.3%), (2.82%), (1.84%), (1.47%), (1.04%), horn (0.61%), (0.49%), (0.25%) toe (0.12%). Lactation length parity no lameness. Comparatively more seen hind limb (56.8%) as compared forelimb (43.2%). Fore lateral medial claws (58.8% 76.47%, respectively) contralateral 52.9% 70.5%, respectively). Overall, a low clinical cows.
